Uniquely, without having premises outside Hull she was still able to compete
with the London fashion houses, traveling to meet her clients at major hotels
at York, Harrogate, Grimsby and London
- and for her most esteemed client, Queen Maud of Norway, she traveled
to Sandringham. She styled herself as Court
Dressmaker from 1901, making many dresses suitable for presentation at court.

B6010)
Rew, Christine. BILL GIBB : The Golden
Boy of British Fashion. 2003. 11 3/4" x 8 1/4", 99 pages, some 95
illustrations in colour and black and white. Published to coincide with the exhibition of the same name. Soft
covers; at the lower edge all pages have been cut, 1/8” from the bottom,
parallel with the bottom edge, for around 1 ¾” – presumably as
a consequence of careless unpacking with a trimming knife. On the rear cover
only, this cut portion has become detached – both front and back cover
are illustrated for your guidance; it would be possible with a bookbinder’s
guillotine to crop the bottom edge by 1/8”, which would remove this
problem. Other than this obvious defect, a very good copy of
this scarce title. 48.00 pounds sterling
