TOOLMAKING AND GENERAL METALWORKING
B1840) Iles, Ashley.
MEMORIES OF A SHEFFIELD TOOL MAKER. 1993. 10" x 7", 135 pages,
black and white illustrations. Ashley Iles started his working life during the
Depression as an apprentice patternmaker. He eventually worked his way into his
own edge-tool business, which has become an important maker and world-wide
distributor of quality carving and turning tools. He also portrays the
Sheffield hand trades in the final years before their demise, when they had
changed little since Victorian times. A very interesting and enjoyable read.
