B617) Wood, W. H. PRACTICAL STAIR BUILDING AND HANDRAILING by the Square Section and Falling Line System. 1894. 10 1/4" x 7 1/2", 83 pages, 32 full page plans, many folding out. NB - Plate 6 has an area of plain paper torn from the margin, approximately 4 1/4" long x 1 1/4" wide at max. The illustration is not affected. Describes stairbuilding from the fundamentals; illustrates many useful devices, and shows the construction in great detail. Hb, little rubbed at edges and corners, one folding plate slightly crumpled at edge. Otherwise a very good copy. US$ 135.00 / 90.00 pounds sterling.

Covers the years 1884 - 1891; a very frank history of a small, two-centuries old business, chronicling the working lives of individual craftsmen. A classic book. Hb in dw, very good. B518) Jeays, Joshua (Author of 'The Geometrical Construction of a Hip-Roof) THE ORTHOGONAL SYSTEM OF HAND-RAILING, with Practical Illustrations of the Construction of Stairs (click for picture). London 1850. 9" x 5 3/4", 80 pages plus 10 folded pages of plans, many text illustrations. A revision of Nicholson's theory (which the author found led to 'the most erroneous results'). The principles of this system were presented to the Society of Arts by the author, and led to the award of the large silver Medal. Hb, original cloth binding a little rubbed at upper and lower spine, pages browned and occasionally somewhat dusty. 1852 inscription. A scarce item. US$ 160.00 / 95.00 pounds sterling
